Counting my blessings

Lately I've been thinking a lot about gratitude. Too often I am prone to "murmuring" or constantly begging God to bless me with this or that or asking why can't I have that. In my trials I get too caught up with what I don't have. Usually, I try to refrain from counting my blessings in public because I don't want to come across as bragging. But, in a worldly sense, I don't have much to brag about. But I do have a lot to be grateful for. My purpose in writing this is not to brag or make others think I have a perfect life, but to help me recognize what I DO have and perhaps help others to get thinking about what they have as well. Here is just a few of the things I am grateful for:
  1. Brad! I am lucky to have a husband who is so helpful and hard working.
  2. Baby B. How I love her. I feel so lucky to have her in my life. Her smiles and giggles make life worth living.
  3. My in-laws. I have the best in-laws in the world. They take such good care of us and are so kind to let us live with them in this financially difficult time. They never complain about us or get frustrated about us being here.
  4. My parents. They are constantly supportive in everything we do or want to do. They are excited about the things I am, and are always willing to help and pray and listen to my concerns.
  5. My healthy body. Okay it is not perfectly healthy BUT it could be so much worse. I can see, walk, breath, hear, talk, and I am free of any very serious illnesses. That is a huge blessing.
  6. Our savings. Before we had baby B we made a goal to create an emergency fund. I am so grateful we did because it gives Brad the chance to focus more on school and work less for now. And by some miracle it hasn't depleted much: another blessing.
  7. The temple. I love the temple and since I've been married and had a baby I have been so grateful for it. It is so comforting to know, no matter what happens, as long as we do our best we are a forever family.
  8. The gospel. In such a crazy world with so many crazy ideas I am grateful for the peace the gospel brings.
  9. The scriptures. They have given me direction and peace time and time again.
  10. My brothers and sisters. They are my closest and best friends and I am so grateful most of them are our here now. I love being able to visit them and chat with them often. They are my forever friends :)
  11. Our two vehicles. Yeah, they are piece of crap and are running on faith but they still run! And I feel so blessed that we have TWO so that I can always have one here so Bri and I can get out of the house and run errands once in awhile. I am grateful that they have lasted us so long.
  12. Medicaid. We'd be in a whole heck of a lot of trouble with out it.
  13. My friends. I feel like I am not as good as a friend as I should be, yet my friends still love me and try to keep in contact with me. That means a lot and I love them all.
  14. Socks. My feet are always cold.
  15. Food. And the fact that we can just go out to eat every now and then if we want. That really is a big blessing.
  16. Brad's job. It is perfect for his school schedule and pays better than before.
  17. The internet. I don't know how anyone ever did anything before the internet. If I have a question, need a recipe or anything its all right  on my computer.
  18. Going to church each Sunday and partaking of the sacrament. I love Sundays. They refresh me each week.
  19. Chocolate. Need I say more?
  20. The ability to laugh. I am so glad God blessed us with humor in our lives. It makes life so much more enjoyable.
  21. Good books.
  22. Good uplifting movies and tv shows. They are fun.
  23. My robe. I got it for Christmas I LOVE it...it is so warm
  24. Warm blankies and a warm house
  25. The mountains. Not only are the beautiful but they are FUN.
  26. Love. Love from God, from others, and the love I feel for others. It enriches life.
  27. The leaders of our church. I love them and I know they are men of God.
  28. My patriarchal blessing.
  29. My mission and all my loved ones in Fiji.
  30. The Savior and the Atonement, and the Grace He offers me each and every day.
There are many more things. But these few I have written have helped me see how blessed I really am. Next time I think life isn't fair or nothing is going right, I'll read this list.
